A Short History
The Aspen Mountain Ski Patrol was established in 1947 with the opening of Aspen Mountain ski area under the newly formed Aspen Skiing Corporation. At that time the ski area consisted of Chair #1, Chair #2 and the Sundeck Restaurant at the top of the mountain. Chair #1 and #2 combined were considered to be the world's longest chairlift. Together they traveled nearly three miles and gained over 3,000 feet of elevation. An opening ceremony for the ski area was held on January 11, 1947. The lift ticket price was $3.75.
